This is the presentation of my final edited photographs in an art gallery, which is Victoria Art Gallery in Bath, I tried to make the image as realistic as possible, by placing the images with accuracy.

L05: Describing Edits

Opaque Passage
9th May 2016
Sunrise
This shot is of an ally way, which leads into the moor, which is
located in town, Sheffield
The meaning is to show how life can lead to different places, as
this is a leading lines shot. The Chinese sign in the photo also shows how
culturally diverse Sheffield is as a city, which was me adding meaning to my
photo. I used the automatic option on the camera for the lighting etc
The genre of the photograph is street photography, as well as surrealism, as the photograph was of course taken in an urban enviroment, which of course connotes its street aspects, and the colours, and the manner of the edit in general, connotes its surreal aspects, which of course links back to my theme/sub-theme connoted, being psychedelia.
To edit the images I duplicated the image and pasted the duplicated layers over the original image, but smaller. I also edited the saturation in order to give it a futuristic look with the colours. It the genre the photograph belongs to is street photography, which connote my theme in many ways.
The lighting that I took the photo in was ambient lighting, therefore it was natural, and the intentions are to make the audience look at things from a different perspective, in general as this shot naturally, is of course, not this vivid set of colours. The aperture I used was f/2.8.

The intentions behind the work of this photo
were me trying to give a standard looking location/set of buildings a unique
and radiant effect, to of course make the overall image match my theme in which
I originally set out.
Overall I really like this edit. I think it
really represents my theme in a creative way, as it really does look out of
this world, and psychedelic, which of course connotes my theme. I also
really like the fact that some of the image looks warped, as this makes it look
like it is melting which again connotes my psychedelic theme.
I also like how the edit depicts the culture of Sheffield, as it is a very diverse city culturally, but this could also be an aspect for division amongst different races, which is of course a problem in modern day society.

Tranquil Landscape

This is a landscape shot of some buildings in
Sheffield. The meaning of this photo is to show Sheffield from a more
futuristic perspective/point of view as this of course connotes my theme as it
is psychedelic in many aspects, which is of course associated with
vivid colours, which connotes the futuristic concept. The original shot is of a
dull-looking factory looking setting in Sheffield, which I of course enhanced
to give it this psychedelic look. To edit the images I changed the saturation,
as well as making the image slightly brighter, by turning up the brightness.
The genre is street/landscape photography, which connotes my theme in many
aspects.
The aperture setting was f/5.6. The
photographic, composition rule I used was simplicity, as throughout
photography, a lot of the time the simpler images have a bigger impact, than
some of the most complicated images.
Overall I think I did really well with this
edit as when looking at it, its almost as if it has an atmospheric feel to it,
for the example, the colour transition of the sky looks quite psychedelic, and
out of this world in many aspects which again connotes my theme denoted, being
psychedelia, as the sky goes from a sky blue natural colour, to an almost
golden/fire'y colour, which could represent the two sides of the city, which is
of course Sheffield, as there are negative aspects and positive to the city. It
could also represent the pollution from some of the factories.
Ghost Child

This is a close up shot of what appears to be Graffiti on a door. The meaning of this photo is to raise awareness for vandalism which is an issue in this modern-day society. The image shows aspects of psychedelia as another meaning of this photo is to show how in a psychedelic mind-state, we view things from a different perspective, to what it is in physical reality, as the graffiti of what appears to be a ghostly child, looks distorted in many aspects, as it is almost as if you are looking at two copies of it, at the same time.
This is also a description of double-vision, which is often experienced in a psychedelic frame of mind. To edit this photo I adjusted the saturation in Adobe Photoshop, as doing this, gave my edited image, a vivid set of colours to of course connote my theme, which is psychedelic.
I also edited the brightness, as I made it brighter, in order to bring out the colours more.
The genre of the photograph is street photography, which connotes my theme denoted in many aspects as my theme is a mixture of street and psychedelic photography.
The aperture of the camera was f/5.6, and the rule of photography, is a framing composition, as the edited photograph seems to sit in between to brick walls, which metaphorically act as a frame.
The lighting was ambient, as I took the photograph in the day-time, therefore the lighting was natural.
Overall I really like this image, as it is really creative, and unique as well as of course connoting my theme denoted being street photography/psychedelia. I also like the fact of how the graffiti seen in the image really connotes the street elements of my theme.

This is a mid shot of what appears to be a vehicle, perhaps used for construction work. The meaning of this photo is to show the influence technology has had on us in this modern age we live in, as it shows how much we have advanced, as a human race. For example this image symbolises how we can now use technologically advanced vehicles to assist us in doing tasks. The edit shows elements of psychedelia as another meaning of this image is to show how the mind can sometimes perceive things differently.
To edit this image I changed the saturation, in the program Adobe Photoshop to give it a more futuristic/surreal set of colours, as this connotes my theme as I am of course doing a psychedelic theme. The change in saturation, has also given my edited image a two tone effect, as the base of the vehicle is blue, whereas the legs of it are red, which gives it a dangerous look in some aspects, as red usually symbolises danger I also edited the brightness, as the original image was a bit dark, so I therefore thought that by doing this, it would help bring the colours out of the image, and make them more radiant.
The genre of the photography is surrealism, as The photograph looks almost other-worldly in many aspects. The colours of the image I edited, also represent surrealism, as they are very bright and vivid, which also connotes my theme in some aspects, as my theme is psychedelia.
The aperture was f/5.6, and the lighting was high-key, as I took the picture inside a museum.
Overall I really like this Image, as it has a really unique look to it, as well as showing elements of cubism and surrealism.
Mystical Car 2098

This is a medium close-up of a vintage looking car in a car park. The meaning of this photograph, is to show the past still has value, as although this car may be considered old by some, it is still used in the technological age that we live in today, which therefore connotes that the past has value.
To edit this photograph, I first changed the saturation to making the colours look really vivid, and almost out of this world, then I selected the car with the quick selection tool which is in Photoshop and selected the car, and duplicated the layer, and changed the opacity down in order to create a trippy looking effect, as this of course connotes my theme, as my theme is a psychedelic theme. This effect also represents double vision, which is accosted with a psychedelic state of mind. The genre of this photograph is street photography, as the image is of a car, which is very representative of the street in general. This image however, could also be classed as surrealism, as the colours used in the edit, look very surreal, which of course connotes my theme denoted, being psychedelia.
The aperture was f/5.6 and the lighting was ambient, as the shot was taken outdoors, so therefore it was natural light. Overall I think I did really well with editing this image, as it really does connote my overall theme with precision ,as well as accuracy, as I am of course basing my theme on street photography, as well as psychedelia.

Ancient Inheritance

This is a close up shot of a nostalgic looking painting
. The meaning of this photograph is to represent different cultures in society, as for example, just by looking at this image you can see the cultural difference, comparing it to our society. Even the structures, being the pyramids show how much different the infrastructure of Egyptian society was compared to our modern day society.
To edit this photograph, I changed the saturation, as this give my image, a more vivid set of colours, and really adds to the nostalgic/surreal feel of the image. I ended up choosing the colour purple, as in my opinion, this colour looks very futuristic, and almost spacey.
The colours overall help to connote my theme, as they link to psychedelia, as purple like I described earlier, is a very majestic colour.
The genre of the photograph is street photography, as the image consists of a very vivid landscape. The composition rule of this photograph is framing, as the painting is in a museum, and is framed.
The aperture was f/5.6 and the lighting high key, as the shot was taken inside a museum, so therefore it was un-natural light. Overall I think I did really well with editing this image, as it really does connote my overall theme with precision ,as well as accuracy, as I am of course basing my theme on street photography, as well as psychedelia.

LO4: Evidence of editing
Evidence of Editing
I edited my photographs on Adobe Photoshop, below are some examples of how I edited my images. I selected 6examples, as most of my edits were edited in the same way, as saturation is the main aspect of editing as my theme was street photography, and my sub-theme psychedelic, which is of course heavily based on the manipulation of colour, and therefore changing the saturation really connotes this as it gives it that surreal, out of this world aesthetic. Brightness was something I also edited as I wanted my images to of course be bright and stand out as much as possible, to connote my theme denoted, being psychedelia.
For this image of the car, I selected the rectangle tool, duplicated the layer, and changed the opacity, in order to give it an almost distorted/double-vision looking to effect, to of course connote my theme denoted being street/psychedelia.

L04- Edits
These are my final Edits, I will describe the edits in L05.
Meaning of editing
Editing is really important in my opinion, as it really does help enhance the meaning, for example if my images were un-edited, you would not see the psychedelic aspects of the edited images, as there would be no surreal concepts, e.g. colours or duplicated layers, and therefore it would not connote my theme denoted being psychedelia, and it would just look like a normal photograph to the audience. Therefore editing really does push across meaning to the audience.

L03 Adobe Bridge

I selected my best images in order and rated them in adobe bridge, I had to choose from a range of images, and in the end selected these 8 and edited them, as in my opinion these are my best photos. I have edited my photos in relation to my theme as I am doing a psychedelic theme, which is of course based on bright and vibrant colours, so therefore I have edited the saturation in order to change the colour. I also duplicated the layers to give it a really trippy look, I have also added another layer on top of that.
I also added a Gaussian filter in order to reflect the light of the image, as well as editing the brightness, in order to make my image shine.
L03 Unedited - Photos
I took these photos on a canon 600D , the aperture is f/2.8 which happens to mean that more light comes into the image as it was not the most sunniest of days which therefore connotes that this aperture lets in the right amount of light in order for my image to look aesthetically ok and that they are not to dark etc. is needed in my images so images do not be dark more like better it is however if on sunny day we do not need lighting. I did not need any extra lighting as the amount of natural sunlight was ok for the shoot, as if I added extra lighting, the photo would become over exposed or maybe blurry which explains why I did not use any external props. I also had to adjust the focus of the camera to make sure that my images did not come out to blurry, which worked as all my images came out ok. The shutter speed I used was a fast shutter speed because as this gets the stillness of the image I took the shutter speed can quickly close also, when you need it to. The iso I used was an automatic one on the canon as the higher iso have me more brightness, and overall the images came out nicely.
I also had to keep the images in focus, in order to get the best quality possible images, to do this I manually adjusted the lens on the camera, until the image was in focus. Framing was also and act of composition that was used, for example on a lot of my images, they are almost framed by natural surroundings, for example on my image of the car the main point of focus, is framed by 2 other cars.
My images fit the brief as they belong to the street photography genre, and therefore could be displayed in the millennium gallery. The rules of photography I focused on were mainly leading lines, and framing as I really like the effect these have on the audience. The edits match the brief of my theme as it is psychedelic, and therefore the vivid colours, I will edit, of course connote my brief/theme.
The meaning behind my photography shoot is to show the psychedelic effects, the inner mind can produce, and how the inner mind can perceive things differently while in this mind-state, which of course makes us see photography, and art in general, in a different way.

L02 Contingency
Contingencies-
If it is a rainy day, I will have to reschedule the shoot to a different day as the camera could get damaged and it is therefore not worth the risk.
If the camera gets damaged via dropping, rain etc., I will have to return it to the college and potentially borrow another one.
Also if the public place is cornered off due to certain activities, I may have to relocate, for example if the police are guarding off the area due to a crime, as this could be a problem as I of course have to do my shoot in the area

Legal/ethical considerations

Today, if you are doing something creative you should have permissions to do so also you will need to think about copyright as people can still your work and copyright what will mean it's their work.

Photography, painting, and Graphics are “Useful Arts”

Form of protection that gives to the artist or creator exclusive rights to use and reproduce their work and they are allowed to sell their product or can give rights to produce the work based on their product.
Copyright is Federal Law not State Law, so law is uniform throughout U.S.
U.S. has signed international Copyright agreements, so it is impossible to steal the idea, even if you are coping from another country, it means that everyone who has copyrighted their product or got a patent are protected by the law.
Model release
- Document stipulating terms under which the Artist may use pictures of a model for business purposes as advertising.
- Can say what ever the Artist and model agree on the paper and it will be clear for everybody what is allowed to do and what is not.
- It is also agreed that artist could work with the picture or video to improve the quality
- Should be written on the paper and signed personally, what means it's impossible to sign with a fake signature.
- Getting a model release at the same time while you are taking photos is very often but it will be better to make sure that document is signed before starting the work.
As my theme is street photography, i therefore do not need a release and consent form as I took the images in a public place.
Taking Photos in Public
- Generally, people in public areas have no expectation of privacy so the Artist does not violate right of privacy when taking photos but in case if their face will be on the picture, people could ask to delete it or they can just ignore this and it's their right to give permissions.
- Private places will require some kind of agreement to film in this area as placeholders wouldn't like to see their place in the film or on the photos or they could be paid that they will allow to film on the territory.
- Public figures & public events have less right to privacy than do private person/events as lots of people are allowed to take pictures without permissions as they probably paid for this event or there just nothing private in this area.
- In some states, using hidden cameras, or zoom lenses may invite criminal or civil penalties as people are not aware about this and it could abuse them.
- Privacy laws are different in every country but to make sure that everything is legal, it's better to red a constitution before starting.
- Law could be unclear and you could get a penalty and you will need to ask several questions about privacy calling to the call centre of local government.
