L01 Serge Mendjisky

Serge Mendjisky

Genre: Serge Mendjisky is a cubist genre photographer.

Purpose: The purpose of Mendjisky's work is to be creative and unique in comparison to other photographs, from say other photographers as this is what cubism offers, as the images are in general edited in a different, more unique way. The purpose is of course as well to show a reflection of Hockney's creativity in his work/photography, as this is art/photography is a reflection of the person, of course

Image Analysis: After analysing some of Mendjisky's images, I can again infer that they are very unique, as for example, in the first example image, I placed below, you can see that, the image is a railroad which appears to have been sliced up, and joined together multiple times to give it that unique, cubist effect.

This cubist effect was most likely done on the program, Adobe Photoshop. I can also infer that the image  stands out to other photographers, photographs. The image also has elements of futurism as it looks almost as if it has a futuristic, glitch effect.

Meaning
The meaning of this photography is of course to reflect how the artist sees the world, as art/photography is of course connected to the actual photographer/artist and their perspective on the world.

Serge Mendjisky happened to be born in 1929 In Paris; He is a renowned, established artist and has exhibited his paintings throughout Europe, Japan and even the United States. He happened to be a painter, but he happened to used photography as his main study for his paintings. Mendjisky throughout the year 2000 decided to work with photography as the final piece for his artistic expression. The photographic techniques he used included the collage techniques to alter photographic images and therefore imply his multi-dimensional view of the world. The mixed preferences expressed through these collages appear to be reminiscent of cubism, and also Pablo Picasso, who Mendjisky actually knew well because of his father’s involvement in the art scene at the time, that accurate cubism would have to be fully achieved via photography.

I really like Mendjisky’s work as he uses the cubism photographic technique, but adds his own twist as his purpose is to  take multiple pictures of the same image and then slice them up to give them a really creative, surreal effect which really is appealing to the audience as it make a normal image, for example in this picture just a train track, look very un-ordinary and appealing.

I like the creativity showed in this cubist image I analysed also, as it looks like a really vibrant city, as the colours look very fluorescent, and the slicing up Mendjisky has done of the image has really made it look surreal, and helps bring out the colours which is very appealing to the audience as it looks surreal in many aspects.

Overall I really like Mendjisky’s work as it is very creative and unique as his cubist effects really make the images look surreal and vibrant, as well as futuristic in many aspects, making the images very appealing to the audience.
